Walking & Hiking Ötztal Valley

  • Those longing for walking and hiking at a rather leisurely pace will love the Piburger See trail around lake Piburger See, or the Vent-Mutsbühel loop trail.
  • 7 mountain lifts operating in summer take mountain enthusiasts to a variety of trailheads, such as the Giggijoch top station in Sölden, the departure point for tours to Rotkoglhütte, and the Almzeit Family Trail with varied activity stations spread all over the hiking area.
  • Educational trails in the Ötztal Nature Park offer useful information on local flora and fauna and the like. The Ötztal Trail of Legends, for instance, features a number of sculptures related to local tales and myths, while the Sölden Alpine Ecology Trail winds its way along the treeline and portrays wildlife in the mountains.
  • Obergurgl at the heart of the Ötztal Nature Park is the perfect base when it comes to exploring the mountains. Do not miss out on the Obergurgl Stone Pine Forest, a real nature monument, or a tour to Langtalereckhütte mountain inn.

  • Many routes start at charming mountain lodges and cabins throughout the Ötztal Valley. Zuckerhütl tours, for instance, start at the Hildesheimer Hütte refuge hut.
  • The Ötztal Trek is certainly a highlight among mountaineering enthusiasts. With an overall length of 400 kilometers (6 routes, 22 legs, 15 alternative options) the route starts and finishes at Ötztal Bahnhof and includes such classics as the Mainzer Höhenweg trail.
  • 7 lifts and cable cars operate even in summer and offer hassle-free access to the world of mountains. The top station of the Wildspitze double chairlift in the mountaineering resort of Vent, for example, is the trailhead for tours to Similaunhütte and the place where Ötzi, the Iceman, was found.
  • The mountaineering village of Vent is also a renowned base for manifold high Alpine tours and crossings at the heart of the Ötztal Nature Park, also accessible along route no. 3 of the Ötztal Trek.

  • Some 20 climbing gardens are spread all over the Ötztal, offering routes for all ages and ability levels. Families and novice climbers should try the fabulous climbing gardens in Oberried, Tumpen and Oetz.
  • Additionally, 7 via ferrata tours offer everything a climber could possibly desire. Highlights not to be missed are the Stuibenfall and Lehner Wasserfall via ferratas in close vicinity to the waterfalls.
  • A real Alpine attraction is the ultimate Schwärzenkamm via ferrata with an access point at 2410 m above sea level - leading up to 2760 meters. Technical skills and a good physical shape are absolutely required! Dreamlike panoramic views are guaranteed.
  • Great bad weather alternatives in the immediate surroundings: AREA 47 outdoor/indoor adventure park and Imst climbing hall.

Skiing Ötztal Valley

Truly unrivaled skiing, snowboarding and freeriding fun is waiting for you in Ötztal, Tirol's longest side valley. Ski slopes and mountains for all ability levels and at all altitudes cater to beginners, families an advanced winter sport fans. At the entrance to the valley you find the Hochoetz Ski Region, a true paradise for young skiers and their families, while the rear end of Ötztal boasts the major ski areas of Sölden and Obergurgl-Hochgurgl where jovial apres-ski or party nights are on the program. A number of small slopes or single ski lifts can be found in Niederthai, Gries and Vent – just perfect to get in first contact with snow and skis. Ötztal – Winter Wonderland

Ötztal is synonymous with Tirol's glacier-topped winter wonderland. Already in October you can enjoy ultimate skiing pleasures on the glacier slopes: Alpine skiers, snowboarders, ice skaters, Nordic skiers, snowshoe hikers, winter walkers and icefall climbers get together at the Peak of Tirol. Snow is always guaranteed thanks to Ötztal's high altitude location. The endless ski slopes feature top modern mountain lifts and snow-making systems. Freeriders and snowboarders can choose from a number of snow parks while 34 mountain lifts - whisking you up beyond 3000 meters above sea level – await you on 150 slope kilometers.
The top ski destination Sölden offers everything a winter sport aficionado's heart could possibly desire, including two glacier ski areas on Rettenbach and Tiefenbach. Also in the holiday villages of Sautens, Haiming-Ochsengarten, Oetz and Längenfeld varied winter activities and romantic moments are scheduled, among them horse-carriage rides, fun-filled tobogganing and snowshoe hiking at torchlight. What's more, with some 150 Nordic track kilometers the Ötztal makes a unique winter holiday paradise for Nordic skiers.
