  • Experienced mountaineers take the tour from Kaunertal Valley to Pitztal Valley via the Ölgrubenjoch saddle. Starting at the Gepatschhaus, the trail winds its way past the Taschachhaus and on to Lake Rifflsee (Pitztal).
  • The peak of Weißseespitze at the very end of Kaunertal Valley is covered by a glacier cap. Mountain climbers may approach the peak by the west ridge, on a lovely route via Falginjoch.
  • Madatschkopf Mountain offers stunning views of Kaunertal Valley. From the Verpeil Hütte, a popular viewpoint, a challenging trail leads to the peak.
  • Kaunergrat loop tour: Tours of 3, 5 or 7 days allow visitors to explore the Kaunergrat Nature Reserve. All tours start at the Naturparkhaus building in Fließ.

  • Marvelous freeriding in Kaunertal is a real insider tip. This superb Tirolean ski area offers myriad opportunities for powder fans.
  • Kaunertal Valley makes a perfect spot for beginners: "Check Your Line" is a made to measure information and safety system, starting at the base station of Karlesjoch mountain lift.
  • More experienced freeriders head for the long "Weißseejoch Spezial" run with some 1000 meters of altitude change, accessible via a short ascent.
  • The undisputed freeride highlight of Kaunertal Glacier is the "Nörderberg" route variant, a 1.1 km long downhill stretch off the beaten slopes, leading right through picture-book landscapes. Starting point is the top station of "Nörderjoch 2" mountain lift.

Kaunertal: Winter scenery and glacier skiing

Snow-capped mountains, sparkling snow crystals, immaculate slopes and the prospect of a lunch stop at one of the cozy mountain restaurants and cabins draw nature and winter sports enthusiasts to the Kaunertal Valley. Skiing on the Kaunertal Glacier starts as early as October. The Weissseeferner slopes are at an altitude of 2,150 to 3,160 meters, and wide enough to ensure hassle-free skiing, carving and snowboarding for everyone. Those looking for more challenging terrain may head for the Karlesjoch slopes, which are easily accessible by gondola.

Thanks to a reliable snow cover, (corn snow) skiing on well-groomed slopes is possible until late in spring. The Fendels family ski area at the entrance to the valley caters especially for the needs of families and young skiers. Night skiing and tobogganing on illuminated tracks ensures fun for the old and young.
