Holidays in tune with nature and traditionThe health resort of Semmering in Lower Austria attracts people from near and far. In the past, Emperor Karl I and famous artists like Oskar Kokoschka or Arthur Schnitzler spend their holidays here. Today the region has become popular among active vacationers and all those in search of rest and relaxation. Vintage car and rally fans know the Semmering like the back of their hand. What's more, the healthy climate promises a wonderful stay just perfect for restoring your energies.
Vienna is only one driving hour away. Scenic Semmering nestles at 960 meters above sea level, and makes a marvelous base for unlimited skiing, walking or wellness holidays at the heat of nature. One of the most famous landmarks is Grand Hotel Panhans located on the Zauberberg ski slope – where the delicious Panhans cake is served.
Walking and biking paradiseIn summer the Semmering holiday region stands for endless cycling and mountain biking: a real heaven especially for downhill and free-ride mountain bikers. More leisurely routes are located on the valley bottom. Walkers and hikers choose from a myriad of excellent walking trails and hiking paths for all preferences. Nature exploration, fresh and healthy air plus uninterrupted panoramic views await you at the scenic Milleniumswarte vantage point, overlooking the Rax-Semmering-Schneeberg mountain range, the Viennese Basin and Lake Neusiedlersee.
A highlight not to be missed is a ride in the historical Semmeringbahn railway dating back to the year 1854. Later it was declared a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage. A splendid hiking trail leads along the scenic Ghega Railway Track Hike. A monument of the designer Carl Ritter von Ghega can be found at the Semmering train station, as well as a small but fine Semmeringbahn Museum.
