Hearty snacks and mouth-watering local delights are served in the numerous Alpine inns and serviced mountain huts.
Climbers get together in the fantastic Schwarzenberg climbing garden. Golf fans have fun on the 18-hole Golfpark Bregenzerwald in Riefensberg. What's more, Bregenzerwald has everything a road cyclist and mountain biker could possibly desire since the 30 kilometer long Bregenzerwald cycle path leads from the northern village of Egg to Schoppernau in the south.   • Experienced mountain aficionados will find plenty of hikeable terrain in the Bregenzerwald area, such as the Horizon Hike near Schwarzenberg, or the Damülser Rundtour loop trail, which winds its way past Uga-Alpe and across Sünser Joch.
  • 9 lifts and cable cars are the gateway to the mountains. The educational flower trail and the trailhead for tours to Glatthorn, for instance, are easily accessible by Stafelalpe chair lift.
  • The Sagenwanderweg Schwarzenberg tells an ancient local tale, while the Themenweg Au meanders through the Argenschlucht gorge and the Auer Ried Nature Reserve.
  • Many routes are easily manageable for families, even with strollers: Among the most popular trails are the Holdamoos nature exploration trail at Au/Schoppernau, and the lake-to-lake tour at Schröcken.

  • Bregenzerwald boasts myriad mountain bike trails for beginners, advanced and real pros. A perfect way to explore the scenic landscape of awesome natural beauty. Guided tours and technique courses at certified Bike Schools are on the program as well.
  • Beginners should head for Hochhäderich loop trail in Hittisau, offering also great rest stops and refreshing moments at the swimming pool after an adventurous day in the mountains.
  • Among the highlights for mountain bikers ranks the Bregenzerwald Holiday Region incl. the picture-book "Rund um die Kanisfluh" MTB trail. With a bit of luck you can ibexes along the trail.
  • The high alpine Tannbergrunde route in Schröcken is also suitable for bikers in search of pleasant nature exploration as they can visit the unrivaled „uf m Tannberg“ alpine museum.

  • Also in winter, lovely Bregenzerwald makes a wonderful hiking paradise where you can choose from 400 kilometers of cleared winter walking routes taking you right through Vorarlberg's winter wonderland.
  • Scenic winter walking in Bregenzerwald offers loads of opportunities for both leisurely explorers or ambitious peak conquerors. All routes within the region are perfectly signposted with pink trail markers.
  • A fabulous winter walking tour travels from Au-Argenau through the forest to scenic Bergkristallhütte and further on to the idyllic Bodenvorsäß farmers' settlement at 1200 meters above sea level. After a nice rest stop you can enjoy a speedy toboggan adventure down to the valley.
  • Very recommendable nature exploration: ancient Walserwege trails in Damüls and panorama walk from Bödele via Lustenauer Hütte to Schwarzenberg.

Bregenzerwald – Ultimate fun on the slopes

The Bregenzerwald is a real winter dorado for all those in search of activities. Some 200 well-groomed ski slopes for all skill levels are waiting for both skiers and snowboarders. The biggest ski area between Lake Constance and Arlberg – Mellau Damüls – offers immaculate runs until spring, a fantastic Burton Snowpark and a unique ski tunnel. Great skiing for families, kids and real experts! Quaint ski huts or mountain restaurants promise leisurely sunshine hours or après-ski fun. Cross-country skiers appreciate Bregenzerwald because of the gently rolling tracks and secluded side valleys while ski touring fans can choose from a wide range of picture-book tours to Vorarlberg's vantage peaks. Tobogganing makes a fun-filled activity for all ages and winter walking trails take nature explorers to the area's most scenic spots. Especially snowshoe hiking amid crisp and clean mountain air has become a new trend. What about a romantic horse carriage ride? Followed by some relaxing hours at your homey hotel, and a wellness session to restore your energies after a sporty day in the mountains.

The green foothills smoothly merge into impressive mountain peaks of an altitude of up to 2,300 meters. Shady woods alternate with romantic river valleys. A myriad of paths lead to hidden mountain lakes and up to peaks which provide fantastic views.

Summer guests who stay in the Bregenzerwald region for three nights or longer between May and September, fully benefit from the Bregenzerwald Guest Card. The card entitles you to free rides on busses and mountain railways. Furthermore, it gives free access to a great number of swimming pools and baths.

Walking in the nature is the best way to let one's thoughts wander.

Around 2,000 km of perfectly marked hiking paths lead to the most picturesque spots and vantage points. On the many themed hiking trails, you can expand your knowledge on beauties of nature or the lives and works of renowned celebrities.

The cultural program comprises both classical and modern events. One of the annual highlights is the Schubertiade Festival in Schwarzenberg in the Angelika-Kauffmann-Saal hall with is around 70 concerts and recitals. But the Bregenz Festival is also a very special highlight!

Skiing and snowboarding
Loud party music is more the exception than the rule in the Bregenzerwald region. Leisurly skiing or boarding through the impressive countryside are more important here. The Bregenzerwald ski areas were expanded with deliberation. Today, 94 ski lifts in 22 communities make 259km of slopes accessible.

Comes handy: the 3-valley ski pass is valid for all ski areas of the Bregenzerwald region and neighbouring valleys. Take a ski bus to commute between the various villages, owners of ski passes are free of charge.

Beginners and experts are professionally taken care of by the numerous ski schools. Laughter and fun are most important in the kids' ski schools.
