The sunshine city of Lienz is located in Osttirol, where the Drau, Puster and Iseltal valleys cross. Two ski resorts in Lienz offer everything needed for winter sports fans during their holidays. There are demanding slopes at Hochstein, which were also used for World Cup races, or the more family-friendly Zetterfeld skiing area. Snowboarders will love the diverse obstacles in the Sunsite Park. Those who prefer to spend time in the snow-covered nature, can enjoy winter hiking tours or cross-country skiing. The tracks in the Dolomites and the Iseltal valley invite you to enjoy the snow-covered and unspoilt landscape. A special experience is also to go ice-skating on the frozen Lake Tristachersee.

Mediterranean atmosphere and mountain scenery

If you take a stroll through Lienz in summer, you have the impression of being in a Mediterranean city due to the many flowers and palm trees along the streets – but at the same time you can enjoy the splendid mountain panorama. Street cafés and pub gardens as well as numerous shop windows invite you to take a rest. And if you are looking for a special gift for the little ones, how about a traditional Dirndl or leather pants? An insider’s tip is “Krismer – die kleine Tracht”, a shop selling traditional costumes especially for children.

Numerous hiking and cycling paths invite you to discover the marvellous nature. The fairytale hike from Sternalm pasture takes you on idyllic forest paths to the Hochstein hut located at 2,000 meters above sea level. If this is not enough, you can continue to the “Bösen Weibele” peak at 2,521 meters. Take a rest on top of the most famous peaks, such as Großglockner, Hochschober and Venediger, and enjoy the stunning panorama, or stop by in one of the huts and have a traditional snack. Afterwards, you can take a plunge in the Natural Gem of Lake Tristachersee – the only bathing lake in Osttirol – or in the “Dolomitenbad” outdoor pool with a heated pool and a separate area for small children.
