Spittal an der Drau - Culture, shopping & a touch of the Mediterranean

Located at the heart of Upper Carinthia, the charming town of Spittal an der Drau represents a harmonious blend of long-standing traditions and modern aspects. It is its awareness of history, culture and tradition combined with an easy-going lifestyle and innumerable dining and shopping facilities that makes Spittal a prime destination for tourists. Take a leisurely walk through the historic town center, past Stadtpark and Schloss Porcia, Spittal's famous landmark. With its three-storey arcades it ranks among the most precious Renaissance buildings north of the Alps. Built by Gabriel v. Salamanca in 1533, the castle was the seat of the Counts of Porcia for many centuries. Today, the courtyard hosts international cultural events, including the International Choir Competition and the Komödienspiele Porcia theater festival.
