Hallstaettersee Hallstatt
Lake Hallstatt is probably the most significant lake in the Alps in terms of history. The towns of Bad Goisern, Hallstatt and Obertraun offer numerous lakeside bathing areas, all of which are accessible free of charge. Ringed by mighty mountains and steep rocks, Lake Hallstatt at the heart of the Salzkammergut region is one of its kind in Austria and offers holidays and bathing pleasures in a quiet and relaxed atmosphere - far from the madding crowds.

Celtic tribes were found to have settled in Hallstatt some 4000 years ago. Due to its varied history and long-standing culture and traditions Hallstatt is a UNESCO World Heritage site, together with the Dachstein/Salzkammergut region.
