Lake Traunsee

  • Area: 25 km²
  • Depth: 191 m
  • Width: 3 km
  • Length: 12 km
Traunsee Traunkirchen
Surrounded by the gentle hills of the Alpine foothills and offering views of the first steep foothills of the Kalkalpen mountain range, this is where Lake Traunsee is located. Austria's deepest lake offers ideal conditions for sports fans. Because of strong winds wakeboarders, windsurfers, sailors and divers really enjoy the place. Numerous lakeside bathing areas can be accessed for free. If you prefer the mountains, the Feuerkogel mountain railway takes you from Ebensee directly to the popular Höllengebirge mountain range.

At the upper end of the lake, there is the famous pottery city of Gmunden. Majestic castles and old abbeys in the surrounding, such as Ort Lakeside Castle, show the history of the lake. Enjoy the unique mountain panorama on a ride with the historic paddle steamer from 1871.
